Uyir in Unarvu was created by Stella Uppal Subbiah and the Uyir performance group and performed at The Bhavan Centre, London. The project provided a platform for adults rediscovering Bharata Natyam, exploring the experiences of mature students, who performed alongside an international team of professional dancers and renowned musicians.

Following research in Colombo and Jaffna, the performance examined the relationship between dance and dancer, drawing on lived experience, memory, and emotion to evoke both real and imagined resonances.

Unarvu translates as knowledge arising from innate feeling and perception, reflecting the project’s focus on intuition, embodied understanding, and emotional authenticity.
