Warped Bodies (2025)

My role: concept, artistic direction, choreography and design

“What moved me was how deeply the research was etched in folklore and tradition, breathing life into something both ancient and radically new. To be part of such an intelligent, boundless space was nothing short of inspiring” - Natalia Gabrielczyk,

I first encountered Jane Stephens’ extraordinary weaves in 2023 and was struck by their three-dimensionality and sense of movement. They were calling to be explored - with bodies, in space! I approached Jane with the idea of a collaboration, curious about what might happen between weave and dance, craft and performance.

That conversation became Warped Bodies — an ongoing investigation into how the weaving body and the dancing body can meet through story, object, text, sound and performance. To date, we’ve held two studio-based research periods with artists from across dance, music, theatre, storytelling and writing. Thanks to free space at AMATA, we were able to set up looms, and instruments, play, test ideas and begin to map the edges of this new creative terrain.
